The Spiegel Corporation purchased the company in 1988 with 60 stores and by 1996 the company had expanded to include an additional 300 stores. By 1998, the company expanded ever further with over 550 stores opened in North America, and joint ventures in Japan and Germany, with 32 and 9 stores respectively.
In 1996 Eddie Bauer created its website eddiebauer.com, to keep pace with the growing online market and to add to the selling power of the retail and catalog departments. In 2000, the company created eddiebauerkids.com an exclusively online store,ナイキ フリー.
Eddie Bauer went on to create licensing agreements with a number of companies including camping equipment, bicycles, eyewear, furniture and even Ford Motor Company SUV.
The company also participated in philanthropic ventures, sponsoring the dd a Dollar, Plant a Tree?retail program that resulted in a 2.5 million dollar check for American Forests. Additionally, Eddie Bauer teamed up with National Geographic to sponsor, the National Geographic Bee, a nationwide geography contest for fourth to eighth grade students in participating American Schools,ナイキ エアマックス, the large-screen premier of a film on Lewis and Clark, and Radio Expeditions, an on-location recorded series that brings listeners around the world (also co-sponsored by National Public Radio).
In 2003,ナイキ エアマックス, the Spiegel Corporation filed for bankruptcy and sold all of their assets except for Eddie Bauer. In 2005, Spiegel, Inc came out of bankruptcy as Eddie Bauer Holdings Inc. (EBH) owned by Commerzbank (the second largest bank in Germany). In June of 2009,ナイキ サッカー, Eddie Bauer filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and was purchased by Golden Gate Capital in July of that year,ナイキ フリー. Eddie Bauer continues to operate three sales divisions: retail stores, outlet stores and online and print catalog.
